The Law Society of Hong Kong Mandatory RME Programme According to the RME rules, upon the completion of the RME core course of their respective categories during the first practice year in which the rules first apply, all legal practitioners from Hong Kong law firms are required to attend at least 3 hours of RME elective courses every practice year, these categories are:
- Principals - solicitors carrying on legal practice in his own name, sole proprietors and partners of Hong Kong law firms
- Non-principals - solicitors other than the above from Hong Kong law firms
- Trainee solicitors
- Registered foreign lawyers
In addition to the above, trainee solicitors are required to further take a compulsory first RME elective course during his second practice year. The rules also do not apply to in-house solicitors practicing in organisations or corporations other than law firms.
