Course Outline:

The protection of designs has become a critical consideration for many companies particularly after design rights rose to prominence after Apple’s legal battles with Samsung.

This class looks at protection of a design in Hong Kong with a focus on design rights considering:

  • Requirements needed to obtain a registered design right
  • The nature of a design
  • Protections afforded by a registered design
  • Infringement and revocation of a design right

The class will also examine design rights regimes in other jurisdictions and consider actual case studies.
